Cuong Pham was spotted on a doorbell camera wandering around the front porch and banging on the door before he comes back with a huge container of liquid.
He is seen dumping the diesel all over the front door and porch, even soaking himself as he poured out the fuel.He then flicked a lighter at the liquid.
Thankfully, for the family inside, diesel does not immediately ignite and needs to be under enormous pressure before it burns.
The fire service in Stockton, California, said had it have been petrol, there could have been a tragic outcome, even for the man seen on security doorbell footage, pouring the fuel.
Fox 40 reports the woman living there and her family were left shaken by the incident.
When they checked the footage, they saw her neighbour, identified as 38-year-old Pham, pouring the fuel.
Investigators told the family if it had been petrol, Pham would have killed himself and the family.
There were a “few adults” and two children, aged three and ten, home at the time of the incident.
The woman told FOX40 that Pham told police that he saw a ghost and was trying to get rid of it. Pham also said he has no problem with the family and he’d like to apologise.
The police investigation continues.
