The European Union observer team in Nigeria has held interaction with the some military brass on ways to ensure security during the elections and also ensure that military personnel do not interfere with the electoral process. Members of the EU Observers during a visit to the Army Headquarters, Abuja, where they engaged the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, on the role of the army in the general elections, said that they are working with security agencies to understand the security challenges, involved in the election process, and how best to address them.

The observer team was also given a brief of the army situation room, and how it is being utilized to monitor and curtail breakout of violence in flashpoints across the country.
