Two months ago, Tekno took a stand against female subjugation on his first song of the year, “Woman“. Now, to celebrate International Women’s Day, he is following up the song’s important message of female empowerment with a very fitting music video.

On the track, Tekno shows his love and respect for women through song, however, in the accompanying video, he translates his affection into art. The video begins with Tekno in his art studio, painting a series of young ladies dressed and accessorised in their grandest attire.
As the stunning video goes on, Tekno then ventures into a village, the Clarence Peters-directed clip capturing industrious women working tirelessly in their selected fields, including a teacher, a mechanic and a tailor.
One of the women Tekno visits is pounding yam, a subtle yet powerful addition that emphasises women’s agency — if cooking is how she chooses to make a living, then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Tekno speaks on the release of his video saying:
“The song Woman celebrates women all over the world who continue to push through socially imposed hurdles and barriers, breaking glass ceilings in the process.
It is no coincidence, therefore that the video is dropping on Women’s Day, as like many other around the world, I want the world to know the limitless potential that women possess and how they contribute to development of, not only families, but societies, professions, institutions and governments.”
It is very rare to find a male afropop artist willing to tackle the relegation of women, and even more difficult to see them succeed when they do try — Tekno really does stand out amongst his peers for this celebratory bop.
