A total of 13,197 people have died in France from COVID-19 since the start of the epidemic, or 987 more in 24 hours, including a child, announced Friday evening the Director-General of Health Jérôme Salomon.
Among the latest deaths, 433 occurred in establishments for the elderly or medico-social establishments, and 554 in hospitals.
There is a child under the age of ten who was in intensive care in the Paris region. “But the causes of death seem multiple, even if there was a COVID-19 infection diagnosed,” said Professor Salomon during his daily update.
In France, the youngest deceased victim identified so far has been a 16-year-old girl.
The Director-General of Health nevertheless reported “a timid thinning”, “a pale ray of sunshine”: a decrease in admissions to intensive care for the second consecutive day. 7,004 people are in intensive care, 62 less than on Thursday.
“A very high plateau seems to be starting, with an epidemic still very dynamic, always very heterogeneous according to the regions, with many admissions, this is why we must remain completely vigilant and mobilized”, he added.
