Fire on Wednesday gutted the Treasury House which is the office of the Accountant General of the Federation in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. It was gathered that the fire started from around the third floor, razing the building upwards including the Accountant General’s office and most of the important offices. The cause of the fire is however unknown as at the time of filing this report. Remember that earlier this year, the office of Auditor-General of Nigeria (AGN) had beamed its search light on the operations of the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, as it uncovered some alleged financial misappropriations. The AGN, Anthony Ayine, found and revealed in its latest report that over N57.62 billion Federal Government grants and contributions given in 2017 could not be accounted for. Ayine queried that Idris had failed to provide details of the disbursement for the grants and contributions, which was given by FG to domestic and foreign governments, public and privately-owned companies, academic institutions and international agencies.
