A 20-year-old pregnant girl identified as Oluchi Akabuilo has been rescued after she allegedly tried to kill herself at Azia Street, Ngbuka-Obosi, Anambra State.
It was gathered that the girl felt dejected upon discovering that her boyfriend for whom she was pregnant was already married with kids.
Out of the N10,000 given to her by her boyfriend to abort the baby, Oluchi used part of the money to buy sniper, which she drank, but luckily, some neighbours saw her and quickly rushed her to hospital.
The spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the incident, said the boyfriend who now on the run, but he’s being trailed by the police.
“On the 19/3/2020 at about 4pm, there was a report at Awada Police Station that a young girl later identified as one Oluchi Akabilo ‘f’ aged 20years of Azia Street, Ngbuka-Obosi allegedly drank a liquid substance suspected to be insecticide in a bid to take her own life.
“The young girl allegedly got pregnant in a relationship with one Chinedu ‘m’ surname yet unknown who unknown to her is married with children. She became devastated upon the discovering of the marital status of her boyfriend.
“And to make matters worse, she was jilted and abandoned by the same man. Victim decided to buy poison to kill herself with part of the #10,000 allegedly given to her by the boyfriend to abort the pregnancy.
“She was rushed to the Hospital in Onitsha by the Police for medical attention and doctors are making frantic efforts to save her life.
“Meanwhile, investigation into the incident has commenced and effort is ongoing to get the fleeing boyfriend apprehended in order to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident,”Haruna said.
