The much publicized Smart City FC Talent Hunt program came to an end in spectacular fashion at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos Wednesday.
The 3-Day scouting exercise which commenced at the Agege Township Stadium on Monday featured top football scouts, coaches and agents from Europe who took charge of several training sessions with hundreds of aspiring young footballers participating in the exercise which focused on discovering, training and nurturing the youngsters in modern football techniques needed for them to actualize their dreams of playing professional football in Europe.
In a chat with Complete Sports, Smart City FC chairman, Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye said aside discovering youngsters with potentials, the scouting exercise has helped to enlighten aspiring youngsters on what is required for them to have a successful trials in Europe.
“This has been a unique scouting exercise where the players discovered will be fully nurtured towards realizing their football potentials as we will not be leaving anything to chance.
“As you can see, we brought in the best scouts and trainers from Europe to conduct the exercise and they have been able to identify a good number of youngsters from among the participants.
“This exercise has exposed the youngsters technically and they now stand a much better chance of succeeding when they go for trials in Europe. I thank the Lagos State government for the great assistance rendered us.”
Meanwhile, Adeboye who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Sports, described the death of Remo Stars FC assistant captain, Tiamiyu Kazeem as unfortunate and painful with a condolence register opened in honour of the player during grand finale of the scouting exercise.
“Tiamiyu Kazeem won the Lagos State FA Cup with us last year. He was on loan at Remo Stars to gather more experience in the NNL because he was set to travel to Europe next year to continue his blossoming career.
“As a talented and dedicated young player, his death was unfortunate and very painful. It is greatly necessary for our law enforcement agents to be re-orientated to forestall such a sad occurrence in the future.
“My heartfelt condolences go to his family and may God rest his soul,” Adeboye concludes.
Lille of France’s agent, Christian Lariepe alongside Alex Coppolani, Henry Okoro, Awoyale Olakunle and others, took charge of the exercise that also had top football academies like Yobo FC, Dosu FC, Bethel FC, Kwara Bombers FC among others in attendance.
