President Muhammadu Buhari will travel to the United States on Sunday to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Presidency said on Thursday.

According to the Presidency, Buhari is one of many leaders who will speak on topics around the theme of the session, “Galvanising multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion”, during debates beginning on September 24.

“President Buhari is scheduled as number five speaker on the first day of the debates – another plus for the country as most world leaders will be listening in the General Assembly Hall, while the global audience watches on live television,” it said.

A State House statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said the Nigerian delegation “is expected to participate at the side-events organised by the country’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies.”

It added that the events would touch on budget, Sustainable Development Goals, financial crimes, donor agency support, among others.

The Presidency said, “The President would be accompanied to New York by governors Abdullahi Sule, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and Adegboyega Oyetola of Nasarawa, Kebbi and Osun states respectively; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Environment, Dr Muhammad Mahmoud; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed; and Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, among others.
