Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and his family have reportedly been thrown into trauma after suspected gunmen allegedly kidnapped his wife’s younger sister along Temple Clinic Junction close to the Government House in Asaba, the state capital.

Elizabeth, the younger sister to Dame Edith, was allegedly accosted by a gang of young men at Temple Clinic junction, along Awai road near Government House on Monday night in Asaba and taken away in a waiting vehicle.

The victim was said to be driving a black jeep when she was ordered to get down, after which was whisked away by her abductors who were armed with dangerous weapons during the operation.

“They shot endlessly into the air to scare away people.

“Out of fear, the lady, who was ordered out of her vehicle, jumped into their waiting vehicle,” a source said.

Though the police are yet to confirm the incident which reportedly happened since on Monday, 25th August 2019, a source at the Government House in Asaba, who declined to be named, said the matter was not placed on red alert because of security reasons, but intelligence gathering had since commenced to rescue her unhurt.

The top government functionary on Wednesday also revealed that the incident has since thrown the governor, wife and her entire family into trauma.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Adeyinka Adeleke, claimed ignorance and denied any knowledge of the alleged abduction.

Meanwhile, the source said no contact has been established with the family or any personality in government.
