An unidentified middle-aged man on Thursday evening allegedly jumped into Gbodofon River in Osogbo, Osun State.
Passersby, who suspected suicide, alerted residents of the area in to rescue him.
Men of the State Fire Service rushed to get scene after they were alerted.
But as at the time of filing this report, the man is yet to be rescued.
The incident attracted motorists and man commercial motorcylists known as Okada riders who converged at the bank of the river to watch the rescue mission.
A witness, Taiye Olaore, said they suspected that the man might have resorted to suicide for an unknown reason.
