…Assures government’s intervention
Imo State governor, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has assured indigenes of Ugiri-Ike and Obohia autonomous communities, both in Ikeduru and Ahiazu Mbaise local government areas of the state respectively, that his administration will give immediate attention to the gully erosion at the boundary between the two communities, on the Atta-Ugiri-Ike-Obohia road.
Gov. Ihedioha, who was represented by the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Hon. Uche Onyeagocha, gave the assurance when he paid an unscheduled visit to the erosion site on Sunday, July 21, 2019.
Speaking, a native of Amaimo, one of the neighboring communities, Hon. Emma Alaribe, who led the SSG to the damaged spot, said that the road was of great economic importance to the people of Ikeduru, Ahiazu Mbaise and beyond, as it is the only major road linking the two LGAs.
Mr. Alaribe who spoke to our correspondent after the visit commended the state government for responding to the clarion by some leaders in the area over the condition of the road, particularly Chief Victor Assams, of Ugiri-Ike.
He said: “Last week, Chief Victor Assams told a delegation of his kinsmen who paid him a courtesy visit at his country home that he has called the governor’s attention to the state of the road.
“Chief Assams said that hopefully, the governor will soon visit the gully erosion site for assessment in no distant time. Today, the governor has sent the SSG. I believe a solution will come sooner than later”, he noted.
Hon. Onyeagocha was received at the palace of Eze (Dr) Emmanuel Nwigwe, the Traditional Ruler of Ugiri-Ike autonomous community who commended the efforts of the Imo State government towards rebuilding the state.
Eze Nwigwe pledged the community’s support for the good programmes and policies of the state government.
