While afropop currently dominates our soundscape, there are still a few multifarious acts that routinely draw inspiration from multiple genres. One of such artists is Barelyanyhook, who just teamed up with producer, Bigfootinyourface for a 4-track EP, Barely Big Enough.
The impressive Barely Big Enough kicks things off with a bubbly reggae beat on the opening track, “See My Head” — a dynamic bop that should tip listeners off to the varying tastes represented throughout the lean but surprisingly expansive EP.
Just as his name suggests, Barleyanyhook refuses to use any hooks or choruses on this EP. Rather, he flaunts his skills through several commendable rap verses, upon which he talks about working hard, making it and the occasional fling with a special girl.
“Viene El Invierno” is the moody second track that sees Barleyanyhook spit Spanish bars over Bigfootinyourface’s captivating beat. As the producer of the project, Bigfootinyourface is given just as much room to shine, and he relishes every moment.
Dabbling in reggae and classic American rap, Bigfootinyourface and Barelyanyhook somehow manage to pit themselves as the most versatile acts we’ve heard from in a while. We are officially obsessed with this duo, and cannot wait to hear more from them.
