Following the Super Eagles qualification for the semi-final of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019, Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote and his billionaire friend Femi Otedola has promised the team $50,000 and $25,000 respectively for every goal scored in their remaining two matches of the competition.
The two business moguls made the pledge to the players when the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick put a call through to them asking for their encouragement and motivation for the team.
Pinnick made the call during his visit to the team’s Le Meridien Cairo Airport hotel on Thursday morning, where he urged the players to redouble their efforts in order to cross to the final stage on Sunday.
While Dangote made a pledge of $50,000 to the team for every goal in their remaining two matches at the championship, Otedola pledged the sum of $25,000 for every goal.
The Super Eagles team had earlier gotten $75,000 from Aiteo Group, for the three goals scored in their 3-2 victory over Cameroon in the Round of 16. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave each player $5,000, while Hosea Wells Okunbo, a businessman, promised $20,000 per player.
The Super Eagles defeated South Africa 2-1 on Wednesday night to book their spot in the semi-finals where they would play Algeria on Sunday.
