A yet-to-be-identified commercial motorcyclist has been shot dead by suspected gunmen at Ansarudeen Primary School in the Makun area of Sagamu, Ogun State.
The National Daily learnt that the incident occurred at about 9.35pm on Tuesday when the victim was waylaid by the suspected criminals.
An eyewitness, who preferred not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, told our correspondent that the suspects forcefully took the deceased’s motorcycle after shooting him.
“The gunmen fled with his motorcycle after shooting him. We immediately alerted the police, who arrived shortly after the call. When they arrived, they found him in a pool of blood.
“He was unconscious at the time. So, the policemen and other residents quickly rushed him to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for treatment. But we later heard that he died,” the eyewitness said.
Contacted, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the perpetrators of the heinous crime had been apprehended and would face the full force of the law.
“Some residents informed the Sagamu Divisional Police Headquarters about the incident. Our officers swiftly rushed to the scene, where they found the deceased unconscious. They took him to the hospital, where a doctor on duty confirmed the victim dead.
“The details of the deceased are still unknown. The corpse has been deposited at the OOUTH morgue for preservation and possible identification. In the meantime, some suspects have been arrested. Some exhibits were recovered, and the investigation is ongoing,” Odutola said.
