Prior to the release of GoldLink‘s sophomore album, Diaspora, the American rapper flaunted his affiliation with Nigerian creatives, teaming up with Maleek Berry for the lead single, “Zulu Screams”; enlisting Meji Alabi to direct its video.
With Maleek Berry delivering an expectedly solid chorus, “Zulu Screams” is a vivacious dance track that brought out the best in the unusual pairing, and our Nigerian star has teased that there might be more Berry-GoldLink collaborations to come.
Growing up as a Nigerian in the diaspora — South London to be precise — Maleek Berry was exposed to a range of musical tastes, from fuji to Ghanaian highlife. This positively influenced his sound, and he now hopes to see his eclectic take on afro-fusion dominate the music world.
He tells Clash:
“I have this thing where I want to infiltrate pop culture with this afro-fusion sound of mine, and it’s better to execute it with bigger artists so that everyone gets exposed to the sound.”

As such, Maleek Berry hopes to work with the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran and other big names in the global music industry, starting with the Grammy-nominated rapper with whom he’s already scored a hit: GoldLink. He continued:
“Me and GoldLink are talking about doing a lot more songs together. It’s weird but it works.”
We’re rooting for Maleek Berry’s big plans to come to fruition, and we cannot wait to hear what he and GoldLink eventually cook up, because if there is one thing the fantastic “Zulu Screams” showed us, it’s that they are truly magic together.
