It was gathered that the incident occurred at around 8 pm on Monday, impacting workers still present inside the building.

The structure, intended to function as a market upon completion, caused panic in the vicinity as passersby and residents mobilized to rescue those trapped under the rubble.

As of the latest update on Tuesday, sources near the area have indicated that one person is feared dead, and two others have sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Rescue operations are actively underway, although specific details regarding the number of people trapped remain uncertain.

A video from the scene depicts traders expressing dismay over the incident and making efforts to salvage belongings.

Efforts to confirm the situation with the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, have been unsuccessful as he did not respond to inquiries sent to his phone at the time of filing this report.

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo visited the market to assess the extent of the damage and offer support to those affected.

Officials from the Anambra State Physical Planning Board and Material Testing Personnel are expected to visit the site for a thorough evaluation.
