Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago has placed a banned on the sale and distribution of food items and farm produce in bulk from the state to other states.

Bago announced the ban during a press briefing, stressing that the sale of food items in bulk has resulted in scarcity and food starvation within the state.

He warned that anyone that flouts the order will have their trcks confiscated and the food items will be shared to people in the state.

The governor said, “Trucks who come to pack or buy foodstuffs from our villagers in bulk should be halted for now. We have stopped mass purchases from our local markets, all our local governments, from now henceforth.

“Anybody found doing that, we have given some security agencies go ahead to confiscate those trucks and share the food to the people.”

This is coming amid the economic hardship Nigerians are facing.

With the fall in the value of the Naira, the cost of food items have skyrocketed across the country, thereby, causing hardship.
