Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the barrage of criticism that greeted the performance of Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage at the coronation of King Charles III of England.
Some detractors had expressed concern after it was announced Savage would perform at the coronation of King Charles at Westminster Abbey Saturday.
Several persons on social media criticised her and said that her appearance at the coronation is hypocritical, considering Britain’s colonial legacy in Nigeria.
But in a short tweet on his official Twitter handle on Monday, Sani called on those criticising the “somebody son” crooner on the grounds that she glorified the vestiges of colonialism, to calm down.
According to him, Nigeria is no longer under the British rule.
He argued that Nigerians should instead, be proud of her achievement and that global recognition.
The former lawmaker argued further that American artistes were also there too.
Shehu Sani wrote, “Those who are criticising Tiwa for performing at the King Charles III Coronation on the grounds that she glorified the vestiges of colonialism should calm down. We are no more under the British rule.
“We should all be proud of her achievement & that global recognition. American artists were there too.”
