Reinstated Plateau Speaker presides over plenary

The reinstated Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Abok Ayuba on Tuesday presided over the plenary session of the assembly after his reinstatement on Monday.

Ayuba who arrived at the Assembly complex at about 9am presided over plenary for the first time since his impeachment over 17 months ago.

While appreciating his colleagues for their stand in the defence of democracy, the Speaker also thanked the people of the state for their support and for allowing democracy to thrive.

He also commended the judiciary for ensuring that justice was done.

During the plenary, a bill for a law to establish the Plateau Social Investment and Related Matters passed its third reading.

The bill sponsored by Nanbol Daniel, (PDP/Langtang North Central) was aimed at improving the social well-being of citizens of the state.

Meantime, Livinus Kwapfan (APC/Shendam Constituency) in his remarks said the APC caucus in the State Assembly, resolved that they were going to obey the rule of law.

Kwapfan said other APC lawmakers would have attended the plenary if not for other pressing needs.

Also speaking, Bala Fwanje (PDP/Mangu South) said the Party members were happy with the judgment of the court.

DAILY POST recalls that Ayuba was illegally impeached on October 28th, 2021, by 8 members of the State Assembly and Yakubu Sanda was elected.

Ayuba, however, challenged his impeachment which he described as “illegal” saying that it contravened the rules of the Assembly.

However, on Monday, a Plateau High Court sitting in Jos reinstated Ayuba as the Speaker of the Assembly.

Justice Nefisa Musa who delivered the judgment granted the plaintiff’s prayers.

Musa said the procedure adopted from the removal of Ayuba was illegal.

Meantime, Plenary was adjourned to Wednesday.
