Some supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State have decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a few days before the 2023 presidential election.
Reports obtained by Naija News on Monday morning said the politicians announced their membership withdrawal from the APC to support the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, Peter Mbah.
It was reported that the former APC members of Enugu West Senatorial Zone set their brooms ablaze while embracing the PDP at the endorsement rally organized at the zone during the weekend.
Naija News understands that five local government areas, including Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Oji River and Udi, make up Enugu West Senatorial Zone. The defectors declared PDP as Enugu’s only hope for good governance.
While being led by a former acting Chairman of the APC in the state, Gilbert Chikwado-Chukwu, the politicians described their latest action as historical and the triumph of light and hope.
Chikwado-Chukwu, who spoke on behalf of others, said they decided to join the ruling party because of the good governance and massive infrastructure the state was enjoying under the party.
Receiving the former APC members to the PDP and handing over the umbrella to them, the chairman of the party in the state, Augustine Nnamani, lauded them for taking the right step and assured them that the PDP would give them all the privileges being enjoyed by members.
Meanwhile, former governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kano, Bashir Ishaq Bashir, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) less than six days before the presidential elections.
Naija News understands that Bashir did not only resign from the party but also created a movement called ‘Game Changers for Asiwaju/Shettima 2023’.
He also publicly declared his support and loyalty to the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and denounced Obi. Before he formally announced his defection from the Labour Party, it was reported that Bashir led his supporters to boycott Obi’s presidential campaign rally at the Kano Pillars stadium on January 22.
While announcing his official resignation from the Labour Party, Bashir said he is moving to the APC with every other LP’s political candidate.
“We shall return to the fold of the All Progressives Congress, and I wish to inform you that we have just finished our Steering Committee meeting where the feedback from our constituencies was deliberated upon,” he said on Sunday.
