Memes have become an integral part of how our generation uses social media, especially Twitter. Whether they be videos or pictures, hilarious memes are now being attached to almost every tweet, adding a lot more context, and, of course, humour.
In the past couple of weeks, Aki & Pawpaw have taken over the meme rotation. Like with Spongebob Squarepants last year, Twitter users are creating memes out of a host of Aki & Pawpaw movie scenes, with each new one more gaining more traction than the last.

Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) and Osita Iheme (Pawpaw) first became popular after their 2002 comedy, Aki na Ukwa. Through the noughties, Ikedieze and Iheme littered Nollywood releases, starring in over 50 films and becoming household names.
Although Aki & Pawpaw have long since taken a break from Nigerian cinema — only making cameos in a few movies — their impact is still quite palpable today, especially given the recent nostalgic affinity old Nollywood seems to possess.

The recent Nollyclassic resurgence has taken us back to iconic moments that defined the noughties in Nigeria, from Rita Dominic’s many assertions that men were only useful for their money, to the melodramatic style of the era.
But while most Nollywood accounts are focusing on the general hilarity of old Nigerian movies, Twitter user, @nollywoodroll is honing in on our favourite Nollywood duo, Aki & Pawpaw, turning their seminal films into the internet’s new meme bank.
So, from Aki’s iconic “I’m sure I have talent…” thought reel, to the Aki & Pawpaw-led footage for Santi’s “Murvlana” — we wouldn’t be mad if this emerged as the official music video — here are a few of our favourite Aki & Pawpaw memes:
