Ycee has come a really long way since he broke out with “Jagaban”. Now, with increased popularity, his sound has grown and become malleable, allowing him to switch between singing and rapping with ease. His shows even more of this versatility on his latest track, “Gold“.
Ycee is currently working on his album, and he gave us a taste of what to expect on his birthday, releasing the fantastic “Balance”. Where in the previous track, he leaned more towards his hip-hop sound, on “Gold”, he’s fully on an afropop vibe, reminiscent of his magnum opus, “Juice”.
Announcing the song on Instagram, Ycee said:
“Some days, the pain might be so unbearable that it makes you question your process, doubt yourself and get all up in your feels.
Through it all, the most important thing remains – you are the Gold, you are Gold. Forged at the eleventh hour, despite all the heat and tribulations.”
Well, some of the best songs are the ones that manage to be introspective as well as entertaining, and Ycee managed to strike that balance with this Beatsbykarma-produced gem. If this catchy track is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat with his upcoming body of work.
