Over the past few years, Nigerian music has been permeating the airwaves overseas, with stars like Davido, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid attaining the recognition they deserve, through various award nominations, including BET’s ‘Best International Act’ award.
The BET Awards are clearly very tapped into the Nigerian music scene, as each year they select just the right artists for nominations, this year selecting three divergent musical minds that have been at the top of their game: Burna Boy, Mr Eazi and Teni.
Burna Boy and Mr Eazi have both had a pretty successful year when it comes to spreading their music worldwide, both being the only Nigerian artists called upon to perform at this year’s prestigious music festival, Coachella.
Both these Nigerian acts are now being rightfully celebrated for their numerous achievements, being nominated alongside stars like Dave, Giggs, AKA and a few other global artists in BET’s ‘Best International Act’ award.
Last year, Teni took the Nigerian music industry by storm. Following her hit single, “Askamaya”, Teni is now regarded as 2018’s biggest breakout star. So, it comes as no surprise that she’s been nominated for the ‘Best New International Act’ award.
Last year, Nigerians celebrated a win, when Davido took home the award for ‘Best International Act’. As Teni is up against Headie One (U.K.), Jok’Air (France), Nesly (France), Octavian (U.K.) and Sho Madjozi (South Africa), we are liking her chances, as well as Burna Boy’s.
