Abuja Taxi Drivers Protest Illegal VIO Charges
An aggrieved group of taxi drivers in the Federal Capital Territory have stormed the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, on Monday to protest alleged harassment and extortion of illegal levies by officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office.
The protesters alleged that the officials of the VIO have allegedly continued to harass and collect illegal levies from them.
It was gathered that Union leaders are preventing taxi drivers from operating by stopping their vehicles and telling their passengers to alight.
Details of the incident are still sketchy as of press time.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Maryian Yusuf was unable to be reached.
