Burna Boy really seems to be on an unstoppable roll. After starting the year off on with his exceptional single, “Dangote”, he followed up by surprising fans with a 4-track EP, Steel & Copper, in collaboration with Grammy-nominated production duo, DJDS.
Now, he’s released a striking and emotive video for the project’s standout tracks, “Thuggin” & “Darko“.
Burna Boy already gave us a taste of his filmmaking mind last year at his Christmas concert, as he unveiled a gripping short film while fans awaited his grand entrance. Now, he’s shown more of this skill in the short for “Darko”/”Thuggin”, where he shares a very touching story.
In the four-minute clip, Burna Boy is depicted as a caring family man, who also happens to be a gangbanger. After putting his kids to bed, he takes to the streets, where he loses a loved one in a gang fight. The intense story very is fitting to the premise of the accompanying song, “Thuggin”.
By the time it moves to the more upbeat “Darko”, the video becomes brighter as the people celebrate the life of their lost one, showing that life goes on. Styled by Stephen Tayo, the colourful clothes really add to the beauty of the film, which ends on a joyful and hopeful note.
