The Nigerian music industry is currently doling out the most sonically diverse songs we’ve ever had, with a bunch of our favourite artists trying their hands at a host of different genres.
EDM, however, hasn’t quite caught on as feverishly as some others, but the gifted Sigag Lauren is looking to change that. The producer and DJ has been dropping impressive refixes of a bunch our biggest afropop hits, from Teni’s “Uyo Meyo” to Burna Boy’s “Gbona”.

We’ve only just begun to embrace afropop songs that incorporate house music, thanks to the likes of Niniola, Sarz and Mr Real. Now, Sigag Lauren is taking afropop hits we already love and giving them a new touch — by lacing them with an EDM kick — and surprisingly enough, it works.
Speaking to Konbini about where he draws inspiration from, Sigag Lauren said:
“I started producing around 2013, when I stared listening to electronic music. I just knew that’s the kind of music I wanted to be making, because I’ve always been a nonconformist and EDM isn’t very popular here.
Making music started out as just a personal hobby, but I got introduced to Ric Hassani & Simi and that’s when I began getting recognition which has kept me going all this time.”
We hope that from these refixes he’s creating, more artists become aware of his staggering talent and actually work with him. Given that we’ve seen how he’s able to work with and, in some cases, improve their sounds, he could really be the next big thing out of the Nigerian music industry.
