An Ibadan magistrate court on Monday, March 25, sent a 20 year old man, Abiodun David, to six years imprisonment with hard labour for pretending to be a Nigerian customs officer.

David was placed on a nine count charge of fraudulent conspiracy, stealing forgery, impersonation, obtaining money under false pretense, and conspiracy.

It should be noted that the accused earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge under Charge No: Mi/509c/20178.

The prosecutor, Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that David and his partners in crime who are no where to be found, on Thursday, September 13, 2018, around Akingbade area of Ibadan planned to impersonate and get money through stolen identities.

He said they fraudulently obtained the sume of N275,000 from one Mrs Olofiniade Olusaye with the fake excuse to supply her fairly used clothes popularly known as ‘akube’.

The prosecutor said that the accused and others still at large sometimes in May 2018 around Egbeda area of Ibadan also fraudulently obtained the sum of N 805,000.00 from one Babalola Tunde with the excuse to supply him a Toyota Highlander.

Ogunremi also told the court that the accused and others now at large on 17th October 2018 around Oluwo Masopa‎ area Ibadan criminally got the sum of N 200, 000, 00 from one Ezekiel Ojo to supply him a Volkswagen Golf S/Car.

The prosecutor, therefore, said the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 516,419,108(2), 467,390(9), 419, of the Criminal Code vol II laws of Oyo state Nigeria. David, however, asked the court to show him mercy, saying he picked up the crime due to the lack of jobs in the country.

David however prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, claiming that it was lack of job that pushed him into committing the offence.

Oladiran thereafter sentenced the accused (David) to six years imprisonment with hard labour ‎, with three years each on counts one and two.
