A couple weeks ago, the “Wetin We Gain” singer, Victor AD enlisted Davido for the celebratory “Tire You”. Well, he’s already back with another single, “Why” — a politically-charged track condemning the state of affairs in Nigeria, assisted by Warri rapper, Erigga.
Victor AD begins the melodic FrediBeat-produced track passionately, singing about how disappointed he is at the stagnant state of Nigeria’s politics — from our self-serving politicians to our terrible voting practices.
On his chorus, AD tells politicians that they are breaking his heart, as they won his vote because he genuinely believed in them. Erigga joins Victor AD in expressing his disappointment, comparing our situation with that of other countries.
Directed by Dindu, the video for “Why” is incredibly emotive, featuring clips that depict violence during voting sessions, bags of rice being used to bribe the population, and peace activists campaigning that we ‘Vote Not Fight’.
Victor AD and Erigga join the long list of artists — 2Baba, Teni, M.I and more on “Not For Sale” — who have put their desires for a peaceful and egalitarian election into song. We commend them for tackling this subject, and for doing it so well.
