Last year, the self-proclaimed king of r&b, Jacquees released a remix of Ella Mai‘s second hit single, “Trip”, and his fantastic take on the “Boo’d Up” follow-up gained massive popularity — mostly due to the fact that it was so much better than the original.

Now, it looks like L.A.X is gunning for similar recognition, as he’s just released a cover of one of the Grammy winner’s more obscure tracks, “Naked“.

A few months ago, L.A.X released his debut album, Rasaking — a star-studded project which largely flew under the radar. Well, he seems to be aiming to bring himself back into the conversation with this surprisingly impressive remix.

“Naked” is definitely a fan favourite off Ella Mai’s self-titled debut, due to its honest and vulnerable lyrics. She sings about looking for somebody who is going to love her completely, regardless of all her glaring imperfections.

L.A.X adopts a similar narrative on his cover, where he delivers great vocals against the original beat. Adding a nice afropop feel to it, L.A.X stretches himself vocally, and we’re very impressed. Hopefully, in the future, we’ll be getting more of the same from him.

Until then, listen to the cover below:
