Saturday’s win means Arsenal have now won the Community Shield 16 times with Liverpool on 15.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 12th minute with a brilliant curler into the far left corner following a cross field pass from Bukayo Saka.

Liverpool drew level on 73 minutes after wave of attacks thanks to substitute Takumi Minamino who pounced on a loose ball inside the box before slotting past Emiliano Martinez.

Both teams pressed for the winner but failed to add to the score which led to the game being decided from the spot.

Arsenal converted all five of their kicks while Rhian Brewster’s miss proved costly for Liverpool.
