Civic Tech Organisation, BudgIT NIgeria revealed payments of 278 Billion naira and over 2900 payments Totalling 51 Billion naira paid into personal accounts with vague descriptions on the open treasury portal.

The Open Treasury Portal was launched in December 2019 for the purpose of transparency in Government spending.
BudgIT gathered the data after analysing 100,000 payments from September 2018 to May 2020.
From January to July 2019, the body discovered payments Totalling 51 Billion Naira into private accounts.
In the same year, 5000 payments valued at 278 Billion naira and 275 payments without description totalling 43 Billion naira without beneficiary names.
” These inconspicuous payments cannot be assessed or traced by citizens and interested parties”.
BudgIT called on the Federal Government to rectify the highlighted cases in the portal and standardization to make vague data input impossible.
