The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has been accused of demanding “mobility money” from the father of the raped and murdered 22-year-old microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Vera Uwaila Omozuwa.
KanyiDaily had reported that Uwa Omozuwa was brutally raped and murdered by unknown assailants while reading her books inside RCCG church in Benin city.
Reacting to a statement by the police while adressing newsmen on Tuesday, the deceased sister expressed disappointment at the NPF over the way they have been handling the case.
She condemned the Police for claiming that her father refused to lay a complaint, and revealed that the officers allegedly demanded bribe from her family before they can begin investigations on her sister’s death.
“I’m very disappointed at the Nigerian Police Force. I go through my phone every time to check what’s going on, what’s trending and all.
“I saw a post that they called my father and he refused to go to the station. My father went there several times almost as if it was his house. They even insulted him.
“The Nigerian Police said they needed mobility money before they can do their job before they can do justice for my sister”, she lamented.
Another relative/friend stated that the Police allegedly told the bereaved father that he was not the first person to have his child raped.
