The Spaniard was the first high-profile name in British football to contract the coronavirus, which prompted the Premier League to suspend fixtures.
Arsenal also responded by closing the club’s London Colney training ground, and sending players home to work off personalised programmes in isolation.
And opening up on his ordeal, Arteta told Arsenal’s official website: “In terms of symptoms, it was a normal virus for me. I had three or four days which were a little bit difficult, with a bit of a temperature and a dry cough, and some discomfort in my chest. That was it.
“The difficulty is that I have people at home, three kids as well and I was worried. My missus has been through it and our nanny has been through it.
“Thank God, the kids never got it. We are all completely fine now.
“I set up a room and a bathroom, and I was there by myself for two or three days but after the second day, my missus started to feel some symptoms as well.
“It was probably too late because by the time that the symptoms arose, the virus was already contagious to other people.
“So we could not prevent it in our home, I think it was too late by the time we had the positive test as well.
“We were reacting and now that’s why I insist that instead of reacting, you have the chance now to stay at home and prevent a lot of situations. We have to do it.”
