“AC Milan confirms that Paolo Maldini, the club’s Technical Director, became aware of contact with a person who subsequently tested positive for Coronavirus and began to display symptoms of the virus himself,” the statement read.
“He was administered with a swab test on Friday, the result of which was positive. His son Daniel, a forward in AC Milan’s youth team who had previously been training with the First Team, also tested positive.
“Paolo and Daniel are both well and have already completed two weeks at home without contact with others. They will now remain in quarantine until clinically recovered, as per the medical protocols outlined by the health authorities.”
Also on Saturday, Serie A champions Juventus announced that star forward Paulo Dybala and his partner have contracted the virus.
The Argentine star becomes the third Juventus player to test positive following earlier announcement that Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi had contracted the virus.
Maldini made 902 appearances for the Serie A giants over the course of 25 seasons, while 18-year-old Daniel has recently broken into the first-team.
He won the Serie A, Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Intercontinental Cup (defunct).
He was a member of the Italian national team that finished third and second at the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cup.
In total he represented Italy at four FIFA World Cups; 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002.
Also, he featured in the side that got to the final of the European Championships co-hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium.
Italy eventually lost 2-1 to France in the final after conceding via golden goal.
