Kaizer Chiefs coach, Ernst Middendorp, has outlined the attributes that attracted and promted the club to secure the services of Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi from Chippa United, reports Completesports.com.
Chiefs completed a last-minute swoop for Akpeyi from Chippa United on the eve of transfer deadline day, following their 0-1 Absa Premiership defeat to Cape Town City last Wednesday.
Akpeyi replaced the injured Bafana Bafana of South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who is ruled out till the end of the season as a result of injury.
The former Warri Wolves goalkeeper penned a one-and-a-half year contract with the Amakhosi.
“Akpeyi is calm and has a physical presence. He communicates well with his defensive line and is good in dictating tactics at the back,” Middendorp, who is a German told Kaizer Chief’s official website.
Akpeyi has managed 36 clean sheets in 104 appearances across all competitions since his arrival in the PSL back in July 2015.
He is expected to make his debut for his new club in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on Saturday.
The 32-year-old was Nigeria’s third choice goalkeeper at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
