Cole Palmer has been named the Professional Football Association (PFA) Young Player of the Year following his breakout season for Chelsea.

The PFA announced Palmer as the recipient of the award on their website on Tuesday.

Palmer won the award ahead of Arsenal star Bukayo Saka and Manchester United duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

“Palmer has claimed the prize for the first time following an exceptional season for the Blues after his move to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City.

“The 22-year-old scored 22 goals and assisted 11 others in the Premier League over the 2023/24 campaign, with only Erling Haaland netting more times than the England international.

“The Chelsea forward made his mark on England’s EURO 2024 campaign. He provided a crucial assist for Ollie Watkins in a last-minute win over the Netherlands before going on to score the equaliser in England’s narrow defeat to Spain in the competition final.”

Meanwhile, the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award went to Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
