England-born Nigerian striker, Chuba Akpom, has been shortlisted for the Championship Player of the Month award for February.
Akpom and three other nominees were announced on the Championship official website on Thursday.
Akpom continued his impressive scoring form in February after netting five goals in five league appearances.
He tops the Championship scoring chart with 21 goals in 28 league appearances for Middlesbrough.
Commenting on Akpom, the English second-tire league organiser wrote:“ A striker transformed under Michael Carrick, Akpom looks a natural coming onto the ball from slightly deeper. Five goals in as many games included finishing a fine team move against Blackpool and scoring in the vital win at Sheffield United.”
Akpom, who has represented England at youth levels, is still eligible to represent Nigeria.
Also, Akpom’s Middlesbrough manager and former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is in the running for the Manager of the Month award for February.
Carrick is nominated alongside former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany and two others.
Middlesbrough are third in the 24-team league table and are seven points adrift of the automatic promotion spot.
