Southampton vs Chelsea – The Saints host the Blues at the St. Mary’s Stadium tonight, Tuesday, August 30 looking to bag their second win of the 20222/2023 Premier League and possibly step up from their current 13th position in the table. Chelsea are hunting for their third win in the campaign and possibly move up from their current sixth position.
Three days ago Saturday, August 27, when Chelsea beat Leicester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, Conor Gallagher was dismissed in the 28th minute of the first half, placing Thomas Tuchel’s team in a precarious position. But early in the second half, Raheem Sterling eventually found the net, scoring his first two Premier League goals while wearing The Blues’ jersey.
A goal was conceded once more by Tuchel’s team after they let in five in their previous two games against Tottenham and Leeds.
It will be very fascinating to watch if Chelsea can maintain defensive composure in this matchup against Southampton, who are expected to be one of the primary relegation candidates this season.
The Saints lost to Manchester United 0-1 at home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the opening match of Saturday’s schedule, handing them their second setback of the year.
So far this season, the Ralph Hasenhuttl-led team has likewise been quite simple to dismantle. In each of their first four games, the Saints have conceded at least one goal. They have given up as many as six against Tottenham and Leeds in their first two games.
Southampton vs Chelsea – Betting Analysis
The last time Chelsea visited St. Mary’s Stadium was in April of this year when they celebrated a crushing 0-6 victory. In their last 40 away games versus Southampton, Chelsea have had 20 victories, 10 ties, and 10 losses overall.
In three of the previous four league meetings between Chelsea and the Saints, there were at least three goals scored.
At the beginning of the season, Southampton’s defence did not appear good at all. Raheem Sterling, who is eager for more goals after scoring his first two at the weekend, will find this to be music to his ears.
We like the 2.87 odds that are being offered for the former Manchester City winger to score anytime against the Saints’ porous defence. The 1.60 odds were paid for Chelsea’s victory.
Southampton vs Chelsea: Head-to-Head
Our Prediction: Under 3.5 Goals
