Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has backed his team to bounce back from Monday’s defeat to the Banyana Banyana of South Africa, reports Completesports.com.
The holders fell to a 2-1 defeat against Desiree Ellis’ side in the Group C encounter at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
Both sides cancelled each other out in the first half, but South Africa took the lead through Jermaine Seoposenwe on the hour mark.
Hilda Magaia added the second with a finish two minutes later.
Rasheedat Ajibade reduced the deficit with an incredible finish in the 92nd minute.
“Despite the loss, we are still positive in camp. It is obviously the first game of the tournament so we have to go back and regroup,”Waldrum was quoted by CAFonline.
“We have to increase our urgency in the fighting spirit because we are encouraged by it. We have to play the way we played in the last 10-15 minutes so that we get going.”
In the other Group C game also on Monday, Burundi defeated Botswana 4-2.
Waldrum’s charges will face Botswana in their game on Thursday.
