This will be the fourth time both the Falcons and Canada will take on each other, since their first encounter in the group stage of the 1995 women’s World Cup in Sweden.

In their first meeting 27 years ago the Falcons came from 3-1 down to force a 3-3 draw, which however was not enough to secure qualification into the quarter-finals.

Rita Nwadike got the Falcons first goal to make it 2-1 before Canada went 3-1 up.

But goals from Patience Avre and Adaku Okoroafor was the Falcons earn their first ever point at the women’s World Cup.

Both teams met again in the group stage of the World Cup, this time at the 2011 edition hosted by Germany.

After losing their opening two games to France (1-0) and Germany (1-0), the Falcons defeated Canada 1-0 in their last group game.

With six minutes left to play, Perpetual Nkwocha helped the Falcons end their campaign at the 2011 World Cup on a high by netting the winning goal.

And the last time the two teams met was in a friendly game in 2019 which the Canadians won 2-1.

Desire Oparanozie opened scoring in the 27th minute before goals from Janine Beckie and Sophie Schmidt, in the 47th and 53rd minutes respectively earned Canada a first ever win against the Falcons.
