Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with improper conduct by UEFA – but is unlikely to face a ban.
Juventus superstar Ronaldo was reported by Atletico Madrid for his “cojones” goal celebration during the Champions League win last week.
It was a clear dig at Atletico boss Diego Simeone who was fined £18,000 by UEFA for his own celebration when he was seen grabbing his balls in the direction of his own fans.
Ronaldo led a remarkable Juventus fightback , scoring a hat trick as the Italians came back from 2-0 down to go through 3-2 on aggregate.
However, it is understood that, as Simeone only got fined, UEFA are unlikely to ban Ronaldo from the Champions League quarter final with Ajax.
The case will be heard on March 21.
The UEFA statement said: “Following a disciplinary investigation conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector, in accordance with the Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR), disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Juventus Football Club and Club Atlético de Madrid, played on 12 March in Italy.
“Charges against Juventus Football Club:
“Improper conduct of player Cristiano Ronaldo – Art. 11 (2) (b) and Art. 11 (2) (d) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will deal with this case at its next meeting on 21 March 2019.”
