NPFL: MFM Maintain Top Spot In Group A, Akwa United Extend Unbeaten Streak To Seven Games

MFM maintained top position in the Group A of the Nigeria Professional Football League following a 2-0 home win against Bendel Insurance at the Agege Stadium, Lagos, reports Completesports.com.

Olawale Abisoye and Micheal Ohanu got both goals for MFM in the encounter.

Insurance has now failed to record a win in their last five games in the NPFL.

Enyimba stayed in second position after they held their hosts Sunshine Stars to a 0-0 at the Akure Sports Stadium.

The Peoples Elephant are now yet to concede a goal in their last five games in the NPFL.

At the Pantami Stadium, Wikki Tourists edged out Rivers United 2-0 through goals from Abba Umar and Isa Gata.

10-man Kastina United defeated Kwara United 2-0 at the Mohamammadu Dikko Stadium.

Martins Usule scored the winning goal in the 13th minute.

Destiny Ashadi missed a penalty after the break, while the hosts were reduced to 10-men when Chinedu Ajana was sent off in the 65th minute.

In Group B, FC IfeanyiUbah maintained first position with a hard fought 1-0 win against Kano Pillars.

Uche Ihuarulam netted the winning goal in the 66th minute.

Akwa United moved to second position following a 2-1 away win against Heartland at the Okigwe Township Stadium.

Ndifreke Effiong opened scoring for Akwa United in the fourth minute after a neat pass by Mfon Udoh.

It was Effiong ‘ s fifth goal of the campaign.

Chijoke Ajoku equalised for Heartland three minutes before the half hour mark, while Udoh scored the winner in the 72nd minute.

Akwa United are now unbeaten in their last seven games in the NPFL.

In Maiduguri, hosts El-Kanemi Warriors were held to a 0-0 draw by Gombe United.

At the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Warriors and Plateau United battled to a 1-1 draw.

Oche Salefu gave the visitors the lead in the 51st minute, while Obi Samson levelled scores for the home team in the 67th minute.

Yobe Desert Stars ended a run of six games without a win edging out Go Round 2-0 in Damaturu.

Philip Auta got the two goals in the eighth and 57th minutes.

In another match in Group B, Kada City defeated Nasarawa United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Nura Mohammed and Kabir Sanusi were on target for the home team with Maigishiri Mohammed scored Nasarawa United only goal of the game.
