Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi made his debut for Kaizer Chiefs who were held to a 1-1 draw by Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby on Saturday at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, Completesporrts.com reports.

Akpeyi only linked up with the Amakhosi last week for an 18-month deal from fellow ABSA Premier League club, Chippa United.

The former Warri Wolves goalkeeper put up a decent showing in the encounter watched by a packed crowd inside the Soccer City.

Both teams battled hard in the first half but failed to hit the back of the net.

Daniel Cardoso gave the home team the lead from the spot in the 53rd minute after Khama Billiat was brought down in the box.

Pirates equalised 10 minutes from time through Thembinkosi Lorch who beat the offside trap to fire the ball home.

Chiefs who are now without a win in their last two league games occupy fifth position in the table with 28 points from 20 games.
