It seems this is the year Anthony Joshua will get a shot at becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion. The only person stopping him from achieving that right now is Deontay Wilder, who currently holds the WBC belt.
Well, according to the British-Nigerian, his faceoff with Wilder will very likely take place this December.
Joshua has consistently pursued a fight with Wilder since beating Alexander Povetkin last year. After Wilder’s fight with Tyson Fury ended in a draw, we thought Joshua would be his next challenge, but the World Boxing Council ordered a Wilder vs Fury rematch instead.
We’ve had enough of the delay of what many are already calling the fight of the decade and, thankfully, Joshua has said it could come to an end this year. Speaking to talkSPORT in London ahead of his June 1st fight with Jarrell Miller, he said:
“Let’s say we have a crystal ball and I beat Miller up, we could have that fight [with Wilder] in December if we can put whatever issues there are to bed.”
One other boxer who keeps popping up whenever Joshua’s name is mentioned is Fury. Many believe Fury holds the key to a Joshua vs Wilder standoff, and that’s why Joshua has suggested that he could also get in the ring with him really soon.
