Barely one month after his remarkable showing at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Sadio Mané made it clear he was fit to go back on the pitch for Liverpool. And, just last night, he proved that by becoming the first African to score two goals in the UEFA Super Cup.
Liverpool played against a fierce Chelsea that was still mourning an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Manchester United. 12 minutes after Chelsea recorded a goal, Mané scored an equalizer in the second half.
If it had ended there, the Senegalese would’ve walked out of the pitch as the second-ever African to score in the competition, after Frédéric Kanouté. Thankfully, the game stretched beyond 90 minutes, giving him enough time to score a second goal.
We can all agree that 2019 has been really good for Mané. It starts looking even better when you consider that he now has 19 goals to his name, and that’s the highest that’s been scored by a Liverpool player this year.
He’s also 2019’s second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League.
