Exactly one month ago, we reported that Divine Oduduru was about to start his professional career. Although he had to give up his scholarship, the decision is starting to pay off, as he just announced that he’s signed a contract with Puma.
As one of the biggest sports brands in the world, Puma not only makes sportswear for some national teams and clubs, the company also has some of the biggest names in sports on their roster – including the likes of the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt.
Although the terms of the deal aren’t public, the fact that Andre De Grasse was signed by Puma for $11 million in 2015 after dumping his scholarship, we can imagine. And, as is normal, the contract has to involve some promotional campaigns for Puma products.
While the campaigns will help sell Puma products, they’ll certainly make Oduduru’s face even more popular. After his feats as an amateur, the 22-year-old needs global popularity and, of course, the money, as he gears up for his first-ever race in the IAAF Diamond League in Monaco.
