Since Mikel Obi called off his deal with Middlesbrough FC, we’ve been wondering what his next career will be. Well, the Nigerian captain has now moved to the Turkish Süper Lig, where he’s signed a two-year deal with Trabzonspor — a deal that allows for a one-year extenstion.
With Ogenyi Onazi and Anthony Nwakaeme on their team, Trabzonspor finished in fourth place in the league last season. Following this deal, Obi will be expected to join forces with the Nigerian duo to improve on that mark and also help the club qualify for the Europa League next season.
In his 15-year career, we’ve seen the 32-year-old play in Norway, England and China. So, this will be his first-ever appearance in Turkey and, with the 2019-20 Süper Lig season set to start in August, we hope fans don’t pressure him as much as they did during his time at Middlesbrough.
