We’ve all been obsessed with Divine Oduduru since he gave us the viral “Hi never espered it” line during an interview in 2013. Now, the Nigerian athlete has certainly given us something else to remember him by, after clocking the world’s fastest 200 metres for 2019!

Oduduru’s performance was the highlight of Saturday’s Big 12 Conference Indoor Championships in Texas, where he represented Texas Tech University. Running a time of 20.08 seconds, he became the second collegian ever in the US to break the 20.10-second mark.

This isn’t the 22-year-old’s first stellar performance in track and field. He won the world under-20 silver medal in 2014, wrapped up last year as a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champion and smashed his own national indoor record at the 2018 African Championships.

You will agree that Nigeria’s athletics scene has been sort of quiet since 2019 started. So, his achievement, which IAAF has ratified as the third fastest indoor 200 metres performance of all-time, marks a pretty good start to an exciting year in athletics for the country.

Watch the moment he achieved the feat:
