Following Anthony Joshua‘s shocking loss to Andy Ruiz Jr three weeks ago, the British-Nigerian‘s team has expectedly triggered the rematch clause in the contract, and the fight is set to take place at the scene of the initial defeat: Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Independent reports that things are already being put in place to see that the fight happens in November or December. Honestly, the return to this venue is a bit worrying, seeing as the fight with Ruiz was the first time Joshua took on an opponent in the US, and we all know how that ended.
However, Joshua feels differently. According to his promoter, Eddie Hearn, the boxer feels it would be special to rewrite history and get the win at the same venue where he suffered his first professional loss. With the positive vibes he’s been giving off since that loss, we’re feeling a bit hopeful.
So, colour us anxious for the announcement of a rematch date.
