Born in London to Nigerian parents, Lawrence Okolie fell in love with boxing, during his gym workouts. Fast forward to present day, three years after going pro, he has become one of the biggest revelations in the junior heavyweight (cruiserweight) division of boxing.
We at Konbini have already discussed with the rising boxing star, who came into the limelight in 2016 when he represented Britain at the Rio Olympics. In this chat he revealed that he was earned the WBA Continental (Europe) cruiserweight title and the British cruiserweight title since September 2018.
Since 2017 when he went pro, Okolie has been in a total of 10 fights and he hasn’t lost any. In fact, seven of the fights ended in a knockout and he won his first four fights in round one! The most sensational fight has been his his first-ever one, in which he knocked out his opponent in 20 seconds.
If you think he gives off some Anthony Joshua vibes, well it’ll interest you to know that Joshua is in fact his mentor. Since they also share the same promoter Eddie Hearn, Okolie’s last fight took place on the Anthony Joshua vs. Alexander Povetkin undercard.
His next fight will take place tomorrow (February 2) when he defends his WBA Continental cruiserweight title against New York’s Shawn Miller at The O2. We’re totally rooting for him.
